The Solune Grand Art MOTOMICHI – Red Eyes Edition is a one-of-a-kind artistic creation born from the encounter between contemporary art, traditional craftsmanship and independent watchmaking. Developed in collaboration with MOTOMICHI, La Scène des Artistes and Schaefer & Companions, the piece translates the artist’s emblematic Red Eyes universe into an intimate mechanical object worn on the wrist.

At the heart of the composition, a deep black dial becomes the stage for two vivid eyes drawn from MOTOMICHI’s ongoing Red Eyes series. Inspired by animism and the idea that life may exist within all things, the original works bring buildings, landscapes and everyday objects to life through animated projections. On Solune, this visual language leaves the monumental scale of projection and becomes something personal and continuously present.

Each eye is individually micro-painted by métiers d’art artisan André Martinez, who translates MOTOMICHI’s distinctive graphic language into the miniature scale of a watch dial. The slight variations inherent to hand painting preserve the expressive quality of the original artwork while giving the piece its own physical character.

Integrated directly into the composition, Super-LumiNova reveals another dimension of the artwork as darkness falls. Against the black dial and dark sculptural case, the watch itself seems to recede, leaving the luminous eyes suspended in the night. The transformation echoes MOTOMICHI’s projections, where seemingly static environments suddenly awaken through light.

The faceted 43 mm Solune architecture provides a sculptural frame for the artwork, its contrasting surfaces interacting with light and reinforcing the tension between object and image. The result is neither simply an artwork reproduced on a watch nor a decorative interpretation, but a shared creation in which contemporary art, hand craftsmanship and mechanical watchmaking become part of the same language.

Produced as a unique piece, the Red Eyes Edition embodies the collaborative vision of MOTOMICHI, André Martinez, La Scène des Artistes and Schaefer & Companions. More than an image carried on the wrist, it becomes a presence: expressive by day, transformed by night, and constantly shifting with the light around it.

FROM NEW MEDIA ART TO THE WRIST

MOTOMICHI’s Red Eyes is an ongoing series inspired by animism and the idea that life may exist within all things. Projected onto buildings, landscapes and everyday objects, his animated eyes make familiar surfaces appear to awaken.

For the Solune Grand Art MOTOMICHI — Red Eyes Edition, this visual language moves from monumental projection to an intimate object worn on the wrist.

Created with MOTOMICHI, Schaefer & Companions and La Scène des Artistes, the project brings contemporary art into dialogue with craftsmanship and mechanical watchmaking.

The eyes remain continuously present, transforming Solune into more than a frame for art: a personal companion that seems to awaken with its surroundings.

FROM LIGHT TO CRAFT

Translating MOTOMICHI’s visual language onto a mechanical watch required a new medium.

Each eye is individually micro-painted by métiers d’art artisan André Martinez, preserving the directness and expressive character of the original artwork at miniature scale.

Super-LumiNova is integrated into the composition, revealing a second identity in darkness. Against the black dial and sculptural case, the watch recedes while the luminous eyes remain suspended in the night.

Echoing MOTOMICHI’s projections, the artwork changes as light fades. Framed by the faceted 43 mm Solune case, it becomes simultaneously image, object and mechanical creation.

A SHARED CREATIVE DIALOGUE

The Red Eyes Edition was conceived as a shared creation bringing together different creative disciplines.

MOTOMICHI brings the artistic universe of Red Eyes. La Scène des Artistes brings its curatorial vision. Schaefer & Companions translates this dialogue into the mechanical language of Solune, while André Martinez gives the artwork its handmade expression.

Together, they share an ambition to create new spaces where art, craftsmanship and contemporary expression can meet.

Created as a one-of-a-kind piece, the Solune Grand Art MOTOMICHI — Red Eyes Edition is presented at La Scène des Artistes in Cannes during Friends with the Monster, from 1 to 18 August 2026.

Born and raised in Japan before moving to the United States, MOTOMICHI developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning painting, digital media, immersive installation and large-scale projection.

His instantly recognizable visual language is populated by creatures that can appear simultaneously playful, strange, familiar and unsettling. His work draws from ideas including Japanese folklore, dream states, urban culture and the subconscious.

At the heart of this collaboration is his Red Eyes series, in which simple animated eyes give unexpected life to buildings, landscapes and objects. On Solune, that same presence becomes intimate and permanent: no longer projected onto the environment, but carried directly on the wrist.

Working at the scale of the dial, André individually micro-paints each eye, preserving the directness and expressive character of the original while adapting it to the demanding precision of horological métiers d’art.

Super-LumiNova is incorporated into the artwork itself, allowing his craftsmanship to participate in the central idea of Red Eyes: an image that changes its presence with light and reveals another identity in darkness.

SCULPTED IN 904L STEEL, SHAPED BY LIGHT

Crafted from 904L stainless steel, the Solune and Octolune cases express the identity of Schaefer & Companions through geometry, light, and proportion.

Solune is designed as a sculptural watch case, with faceted surfaces and a sun-inspired bezel that reflect light across polished and satin-finished angles. On Grand Art editions, the inner bezel features an engraved moon cycle, framing the handcrafted dial with a discreet celestial signature.

Octolune offers a more restrained interpretation, with an eight-sided bezel and balanced geometry. Its polished facets, brushed surfaces, and 904L steel construction preserve the same play of light in a more minimal architectural form.

SCULPTURAL CASE PROFILE

FACETED SIDES AND ARCHITECTURAL LUGS

From the side, the case reveals one of its most distinctive features: a sculptural profile built around tension, depth, and precision. The case is not simply shaped to hold a movement and dial. It is designed as a small architectural object, where each bevel, edge, and transition contributes to the visual identity of the watch.

The lugs extend from the case with a strong yet fluid presence, giving the watch a bold silhouette while preserving comfort on the wrist. Their sculpted form creates a natural continuity between the case and strap, reinforcing the sense that every element has been drawn as part of the same artistic composition.

Through contrasting finishes, the side of the case becomes a surface of expression. Polished bevels catch the light sharply, while matte and brushed areas create depth and contrast. This balance between brilliance and restraint gives Solune and Octolune their distinctive presence: technical, artistic, and immediately recognizable.

ASTRAL HANDS

CELESTIAL TIME IN MOTION

Inspired by the cosmos, the Astral Hands complete the celestial identity of the Solune and Octolune collections. The hour and minute hands combine brushed and polished finishes, creating a refined contrast that enhances legibility while echoing the case’s play of light.

At the center, the seconds hand becomes a moving star. Shaped as a seven-pointed astral symbol, it turns endlessly above the dial, bringing the artwork to life with a continuous celestial motion. This rotating star transforms the reading of time into a poetic gesture, where every second becomes part of a wider orbit.

Together, the hands, case, and dial form a coherent artistic watchmaking language. They express the core vision of Schaefer & Companions: Swiss mechanical watches designed not only to measure time, but to frame handcrafted art, cosmic inspiration, and the beauty of uniqueness.
