The Solune Médaillon Antarctica – Straw Marquetry Edition celebrates Swiss métiers d’art through the delicate mastery of straw marquetry by Sabine Aucoulon.
Three medallion variations reveal the poetic beauty of straw — its subtle reflections shifting with the light, evoking the ever-changing landscapes of Antarctica: shimmering ice, windswept plains, and endless horizons.
Each dial captures nature’s purity in geometric abstraction, where every straw is hand-laid and polished to perfection. A dialogue between natural material and horological art, it embodies a serene encounter between craftsmanship, light, and the frozen majesty of the South Pole.

Crafted by Hand, Each Medalion is Unique
Frozen Radiance, In Straw
Guided by the dialogue between light, color, and silence, Sabine Aucoulon reinterprets the Antarctic landscape through the refined art of straw marquetry. Each dial is hand-laid from cut and polished straw, its shifting reflections revealing iridescent blues, pale whites, and soft auroras that evoke ice fields and distant skies.
Every variation is unique — the tilt of a straw, the meeting of hues, the rhythm of light. Still to the eye yet alive in motion, these compositions capture the frozen beauty of Antarctica, a serene meditation on nature’s geometry and the living soul of material craftsmanship.
Artistic Craftsmanship
Discover the Art of Straw Marquetry
Rooted in centuries-old tradition and practiced by only a select few, straw marquetry stands among the most refined expressions of decorative craftsmanship. In the hands of Sabine Aucoulon, this demanding art becomes a study in light and texture, each strand of straw carefully split, pressed, and positioned by hand to form subtle, radiant compositions. The material’s natural brilliance reveals infinite tonal variations, turning every dial into a living landscape of reflection.
Free from mechanization, Aucoulon’s marquetry celebrates time, gesture, and intuition. Every pattern emerges from the quiet dialogue between the artisan and the straw, where precision meets emotion. Enduring yet fragile, her creations embody the soul of true artistry: a meeting of nature, patience, and the timeless beauty of human craft.

Our Artistic Companion
Sabine Aucoulon

Sabine Aucoulon has dedicated her artistic life to exploring light through matter — weaving together straw marquetry and embroidery in a dialogue of texture, reflection, and emotion. Trained at the Beaux-Arts and shaped by her time in Berlin, Reims, and now Angers, she draws inspiration from nature’s quiet rhythms and organic geometries.
Working entirely by hand, Sabine transforms humble straw into luminous surfaces, where color and sheen shift with every angle. Her compositions — abstract yet deeply sensory — capture the fragile balance between structure and spontaneity.
Beyond her studio, she shares her craft through exhibitions and workshops, passing on a savoir-faire both ancestral and ever-evolving. Through each creation, Sabine Aucoulon redefines contemporary métiers d’art, giving voice to the poetic and enduring dialogue between light, material, and the human hand.
