Solune Grand Art Dune Edition

The Solune Grand Art Dune Edition is born from a rare, cross disciplinary collaboration bringing together multiple artists around a shared sensibility. Conceived and directed in collaboration with Sean Paul Lorentzen, this edition explores the desert as both a landscape and an inner territory.

The dial interprets the dunes through an abstract, illustrative language, translating their warmth, vastness, and ever shifting patterns of sand into a subtle composition of color and rhythm. Rather than representation, it evokes the feeling of the desert, its silence, its scale, and its quiet beauty.

This vision takes material form through the hands of our Companion, straw marquetry artist Sabine Aucoulon. Chosen for its delicate texture and natural luminosity, the straw captures light in gentle refractions, echoing the living surface of sand shaped by wind and time.

Rooted in Sean Paul Lorentzen’s childhood fascination with desert landscapes, the project expanded into a collective journey.

Each piece, documented by aBlogtoWatch, is crafted by hand and made to order, standing as a quiet homage to the enduring poetry of the dunes, preserved within time.

The Storytellers of Solune Dune

Sean Paul Lorentzen

A Companion of the Schaefer and Companions brand, Sean Paul Lorentzen is Senior Editor at aBlogtoWatch, author of Time Machines, and co-host of Seduced by Speed on MotorTrend.

The Solune Dune Edition was born from his vision and childhood memories of the desert, a landscape he sought to capture and transform into watchmaking art.

Guiding the project with artistic direction and narrative intent, he shaped it as both a creative journey and a living archive of every step behind the making of métiers d’art hand-crafted dials.

Sabine Aucoulon

Sabine Aucoulon has dedicated her artistic life to exploring light through matter — weaving together straw marquetry and embroidery in a dialogue of texture, reflection, and emotion. Trained at the Beaux-Arts and shaped by her time in Berlin, Reims, and now Angers, she draws inspiration from nature’s quiet rhythms and organic geometries.

Working entirely by hand, Sabine transforms humble straw into luminous surfaces, where color and sheen shift with every angle. Her compositions — abstract yet deeply sensory — capture the fragile balance between structure and spontaneity.

Beyond her studio, she shares her craft through exhibitions and workshops, passing on a savoir-faire both ancestral and ever-evolving. Through each creation, Sabine Aucoulon redefines contemporary métiers d’art, giving voice to the poetic and enduring dialogue between light, material, and the human hand.

Hans Ostrom

A Companion of the Schaefer and Companions brand, Hans Ansgar Ostrom is a renowned poet, novelist, and professor of English and African American Studies at the University of Puget Sound.

At the very origin of the Solune Dune Edition, he wrote the poem that sparked the entire project, laying the foundation through imagery and rhythm that evoked the desert and its memory.

His words, imbued with cadence and reflection, extend beyond the page as he lends his voice to the project, narrating the films that unveil the watches and their story.

Arabesque Choche

A Companion of the Schaefer and Companions brand, Arabesque Choche is a Japanese composer with a classical background, known for blending orchestral tradition with modern electronic textures.

His ethereal soundscapes, born from this duality, bring a singular depth to the Solune Dune Edition, for which he lent one of his compositions to echo the desert’s spirit and vast horizons.

Eager to participate, he joins the project as a musical voice, enriching the narrative with a score that bridges heritage and contemporary creation.
