The Solune Grand Art – Straw Marquetry Edition pays tribute to Swiss métiers d’art and to the silent majesty of Antarctica through the poetic medium of straw.

On a deep, glacial blue ground, master artisan Sabine Aucoulon composes each dial from meticulously hand-cut straw fragments. Their natural iridescence captures shifting polar light — from icy dawns to endless twilights — while subtle geometric patterns evoke wind-sculpted ice and frozen horizons.

Each piece is a singular creation, where no reflection, hue, or alignment repeats. A dialogue between natural brilliance and contemporary watchmaking, the Grand Art Edition embodies sculptural luminosity, quiet strength, and the timeless soul of human craftsmanship.

Handcrafted artistic dial

The artistic value of this watch lies in its individually handcrafted dial. Created by a named artist or artisan using traditional métiers d’art techniques, every dial carries subtle variations resulting from the human hand and the materials used.

Reliable Swiss mechanical base

The watch is powered by the Swiss ETA 2892-A2 automatic calibre in TOP grade. This established movement was selected for its reliability, slim construction and long-term serviceability, allowing the handcrafted dial to remain at the centre of the creation.

When will I receive my watch?
Estimated preparation time: approximately 2 weeks. Our team sends you progress updates at every step of production.
How to pre-order my watch
Reserve your watch securely with a 30% deposit at checkout. This deposit confirms your order and is deducted from the total price. Your watch is dispatched after the balance is received.
Delivery policy
Every watch is prepared on demand and carefully inspected before dispatch. The estimated preparation time for this model is shown above. Because the dial is handcrafted, timing can vary slightly if extra finishing or quality control is needed. We keep you informed throughout production, and ship only after final approval and full payment.
Warranty and returns
Your watch is covered by a 2-year limited warranty from delivery against manufacturing and functional defects under normal use. Handcrafted variations are part of the piece and are not defects. As watches are prepared on demand, change-of-mind returns may not be accepted once production, allocation or personalization has started. For a damaged, incorrect or defective delivery, contact us within 7 days before returning anything.

WHERE STRAW CATCHES LIGHT

Within the Maison’s Antarctica First Collection, Solune Antarctica Straw Marquetry interprets frozen landscapes through natural straw, geometric rhythm and reflected light.

Created with Sabine Aucoulon, the dial transforms Antarctica into an abstract composition. Each strand is selected, cut and positioned by hand, allowing its natural fibres to capture light from changing angles.

Available in three distinct designs, every version reveals a different vision of the continent. The straw creates shifting reflections, giving the dial a luminous, vibrant presence that evolves with every movement of the wrist.

Solune remains the flagship case expression of the Maison. The same artistic creation may also be presented in the Octolune case variant, offering a more architectural framing of the marquetry artwork.

FROZEN LANDSCAPES, LIVING REFLECTIONS

STRAW IN MOTION

Straw marquetry is an exacting decorative art requiring patience, precision and a deep understanding of the material’s natural structure.

Each strand is opened, flattened, selected and cut before being assembled individually. Its orientation determines how the light travels across the dial, creating changes in depth, contrast and intensity.

The result is a surface that never appears fixed. Depending on the angle, the composition reveals luminous lines, shifting shadows and reflections reminiscent of ice, wind and distant horizons.

This is where the Antarctic inspiration becomes tangible: not through a literal landscape, but through light held within a living natural material.

THE MARQUETRY ARTIST’S HAND

Sabine Aucoulon brings together straw marquetry, artistic embroidery and contemporary design. With a background in fine arts, she has developed a practice shaped by material, precision and an attentive observation of nature.

Her work explores the dialogue between organic texture and controlled composition. Straw is never simply decorative. Its fibres, direction and natural reflections become part of the artwork, responding continuously to light.

“Each strand carries its own movement. My role is to reveal it through the composition.”

For Solune Antarctica Straw Marquetry, Sabine translates the silence, fragility and strength of polar landscapes into three tactile and luminous designs, entirely shaped by hand.

SOLUNE

OCTOLUNE

SOLUNE AND OCTOLUNE CASE ARCHITECTURE

SCULPTED IN 904L STEEL, SHAPED BY LIGHT

Crafted from 904L stainless steel, the Solune and Octolune cases express the identity of Schaefer & Companions through geometry, light, and proportion.

Solune is designed as a sculptural watch case, with faceted surfaces and a sun-inspired bezel that reflect light across polished and satin-finished angles. On Grand Art editions, the inner bezel features an engraved moon cycle, framing the handcrafted dial with a discreet celestial signature.

Octolune offers a more restrained interpretation, with an eight-sided bezel and balanced geometry. Its polished facets, brushed surfaces, and 904L steel construction preserve the same play of light in a more minimal architectural form.

SCULPTURAL CASE PROFILE

FACETED SIDES AND ARCHITECTURAL LUGS

From the side, the case reveals one of its most distinctive features: a sculptural profile built around tension, depth, and precision. The case is not simply shaped to hold a movement and dial. It is designed as a small architectural object, where each bevel, edge, and transition contributes to the visual identity of the watch.

The lugs extend from the case with a strong yet fluid presence, giving the watch a bold silhouette while preserving comfort on the wrist. Their sculpted form creates a natural continuity between the case and strap, reinforcing the sense that every element has been drawn as part of the same artistic composition.

Through contrasting finishes, the side of the case becomes a surface of expression. Polished bevels catch the light sharply, while matte and brushed areas create depth and contrast. This balance between brilliance and restraint gives Solune and Octolune their distinctive presence: technical, artistic, and immediately recognizable.

ASTRAL HANDS

CELESTIAL TIME IN MOTION

Inspired by the cosmos, the Astral Hands complete the celestial identity of the Solune and Octolune collections. The hour and minute hands combine brushed and polished finishes, creating a refined contrast that enhances legibility while echoing the case’s play of light.

At the center, the seconds hand becomes a moving star. Shaped as a seven-pointed astral symbol, it turns endlessly above the dial, bringing the artwork to life with a continuous celestial motion. This rotating star transforms the reading of time into a poetic gesture, where every second becomes part of a wider orbit.

Together, the hands, case, and dial form a coherent artistic watchmaking language. They express the core vision of Schaefer & Companions: Swiss mechanical watches designed not only to measure time, but to frame handcrafted art, cosmic inspiration, and the beauty of uniqueness.
