The story of the Solune Pure Rizières began with a photograph. While reading an article about a distant part of the world, Christophe Schaefer, Founder of Schaefer & Companions, came across an image of lush rice terraces. Beyond their beautiful shades of green, something else caught his attention: the gentle undulations of the landscape, flowing like ribbons in the wind. Each line seemed different in colour and movement, yet together they formed a harmonious whole. To Christophe, they evoked the members of a family, each with their own identity, coming together to create something greater when viewed from a distance.
These flowing lines became a deeply personal reflection on time. Never quite repeating themselves, always moving and changing, they suggested the passing of moments and the connections that bring us together. A living, continuous rhythm, almost like a breath. Christophe wanted to translate this feeling into a new artistic creation, not by reproducing the photograph itself, but by capturing the emotion it had awakened in him.
This inspiration became the starting point for a creative dialogue with French artist Solène Rolland-Huckel, one of the Maison's Compagnons. Through their exchanges, Christophe shared his interpretation of the landscape, its movement, its colours and the meaning he saw within its curves. Solène understood this vision and brought her own artistic sensitivity to it, transforming that initial impression into a composition of lacquer, colour and flowing lines. The result is not simply an interpretation of rice terraces, but the meeting of two creative perspectives, where an idea becomes something new through the hands and imagination of an artist.
Through her mastery of lacquer and mixed techniques, Solène gives each composition its own depth and character. The delicate interplay of curves, colours and reflections invites the eye to wander across the dial, discovering details that reveal themselves gradually with changing light. Each line seems to open a new perspective, each reflection suggesting a thought without words. It is an artwork that encourages a moment of contemplation, where the passing of time becomes something to observe rather than simply measure.
The new Solune Pure 39 mm was conceived to give this artistic expression the space it deserves. Its refined stainless steel case, elegant curves and slender hands are designed to frame the dial without competing with it. Subtle combinations of polished, brushed and sandblasted surfaces preserve the Maison's distinctive watchmaking identity, alongside its signature crown and caseback.
Powered by the manually wound ETA 7001 movement, the Solune Pure Rizières embodies the philosophy of Schaefer & Companions: a dialogue between watchmaking and artistic creation, between an initial inspiration and the freedom of the artist who brings it to life. An invitation to discover art on the wrist, and to take the time to contemplate the emotions and stories held within each creation.
Please note: The images shown combine photography and 3D renderings, as the prototypes are currently in production. Once reserved, your watch will be delivered within 6 to 11 weeks.

A WORLD OF COLOUR, A LANDSCAPE OF LINES
With Rizières, Schaefer & Companions explores a new expression of nature. Following the frozen landscapes of Solune Antarctica, the Maison turns towards the flowing contours of rice terraces, interpreted through the art of lacquer.
Created with lacquer and engraving artist Solène Rolland-Huckel, the collection draws inspiration from rice fields seen from above, where the landscape reveals an almost abstract composition of curves, colours and movement.
These flowing lines become more than a representation of nature. They evoke the passage of time, the continuity of life and the connections that bring us together. Through carefully layered colours and hand-painted details, each dial offers its own interpretation of this landscape.
Presented within the new 39 mm Solune Pure, a refined evolution of the Maison's original Solune design, Rizières continues the same artistic vision: allowing nature to inspire, and the artist's hand to give it form.
THE ART OF LACQUER
COLOUR IN LAYERS
Lacquer is an art of patience and precision. Each Rizières dial is created through a succession of carefully applied layers, allowing colour, texture and depth to develop gradually across its surface.
Solène works with coloured and transparent lacquer, building the background one layer at a time. Each application is left to cure before being gently refined, creating a foundation for the delicate composition that follows.
The flowing contours inspired by rice terraces are then painted by hand using lacquer mixed with gold powder. These fine, undulating lines give the landscape its rhythm, while additional layers of transparent lacquer bring depth and luminosity to the finished artwork.
As light moves across the surface, the colours and reflections reveal different aspects of the composition. The variations in tone and hand-painted lines make each dial slightly different, preserving the individual character of every creation.
THE ARTIST'S HAND
Solène Rolland Huckel is a French lacquer and engraving artist, and the founder of L'Atelier de Salem, established in 2020. Her work explores the relationship between traditional craftsmanship, colour and the expressive possibilities of materials.
Introduced to lacquer by her mother and to engraving by her father, Solène carries forward a family heritage of artistic craftsmanship. Her practice began with glass before expanding into metalwork, engraving and lacquer, bringing together different techniques in a personal artistic language.
Inspired by nature, ancient cultures and the richness of materials, her creations explore texture, layered colours and intricate details. Each surface becomes a space for experimentation, where traditional techniques meet artistic interpretation.
For Solune Pure Rizières, Solène transforms the contours of rice terraces into miniature landscapes of colour and movement. Through her work, each dial becomes an individual creation, shaped by hand and inspired by the natural world.
